...and thankfully only one step back.
Things were finally getting somewhat back to normal for my dad. He had reached the point where he was able to get himself to the wheelchair and move about his apartment with it. This was HUGE and meant not needing to have someone there several times throughout the day to help him with a meal or a trip to the bathroom and other such things. He simply just needed a little help here and there, but mostly just some company.
Yesterday he had a doctor appointment to check on how the 3 fractures in his foot are healing. An x-ray revealed that one of the fractures is actually spreading wider rather than healing. Not the most horrible news, but definitely a bummer. He will have to have surgery on it this afternoon to most likely put a screw or two in there to pull everything back together.
So we're certainly not back to square one (well after the first couple days which are always tough post surgery), but it is a bummer, especially for him and his regained sense of independence. I'm just continuing to be grateful that we are able to help him out.
These past few weeks for our family has been trying in more ways than one.
It seems on Father's Day, my little brother found out from his wife that she had met a guy at the gym whom she liked and had been spending some time with. She claims they've done everything but you know what. So, he filed for a divorce. In the time since finding out, she's made it very easy for him to get past being sad about it, and has completely helped him to know he made the right choice in several ways, that I'll just sum up as childish acts to rub it in his face. My heart breaks for him to have to go through this, but he's a strong person, so I know he can come out on top and be better for it.
Today, I am grateful for optimism and the ability to overcome even the toughest battles with an ability to see that the best is yet to come. And thank heavens for that!
